How to commission a drawing or painting
To commission a landscape drawing, pet portrait or otherwise, you must:
- 1. Choose your medium: This will determine the finish. Dry pencil and pastel are both fantastic for pet portraits from photos thanks to their detail. However, pastels must be framed and glazed to prevent smudging, while dry pencil drawings can be framed without glass. Watercolour, on the other hand, provides a washed-out finish that is perfect for landscapes.
- 2. Select your subject: For pet and animal portraits you must provide a clear reference photo – although multiple photos are better. For landscapes, on the other hand, you can either provide a photo or commission a drawing or painting of a local view which I can visit.
- 3. Get started: Once you have chosen your medium and subject (don’t worry if you’re not 100% as I am also happy to advise based on your reference photo), please contact me at hello@mwilkinson.art for a quote and approximate turnaround time; this will vary depending on the complexity of the subject and the medium you choose. I try to complete all commissions within three weeks. If you are happy with the quote, I request a 30% deposit upfront.
When your commission is complete, I will send you several photos and request the outstanding amount prior to delivery. If you are local, you can then either pickup from my home or I can deliver.
